Overview

This project aimed to reimagine the way users interact with auto insurance—by shifting focus from policies to the vehicle itself. Recognizing that most users only hold a single motor insurance policy, we saw an opportunity to create a more engaging experience by designing around the user’s car, rather than the policy. The goal was to build a personalized digital automotive ecosystem within the Allianz’ım app—blending utility with emotional connection.

The vision started with enabling users to add and view a digital vehicle profile, which would act as an interactive hub—not just for insurance details, but for real-time services like fuel prices, inspection reminders, and even AI-generated 3D car visuals. The ecosystem was designed to feel relevant even to single-policy holders, creating value through contextual insights, convenience, and a strong sense of ownership. This foundation would set the stage for a broader, connected ecosystem in future iterations.

Core Challenges

  • Traditional policy-first interfaces felt static and limited, especially for users with only one policy.

  • The new experience needed to be engaging, intuitive, and scalable—balancing simplicity with feature-rich content.

  • Users required tailored experiences whether they had zero, one, or multiple vehicles.

  • Benefits such as roadside assistance, service scheduling, and real-time fuel data needed thoughtful placement to ensure both visibility and clarity.

The Process

We began by exploring three alternative designs for the initial “My Car” tab—aiming to make a strong first impression with a balance of clarity, emotional appeal, and easy access to actions.

Next, we tackled how to introduce and place an expanding set of value-added features like fuel tracking, tire reminders, and partner services. Two main strategies were tested:

  • Option 1: Show benefits in the Car Tab. Ensures universal access but could become cluttered, especially with multiple registered vehicles.

  • Option 2: Move benefits into the Car Detail screen. Keeps the main tab clean while offering contextual services based on the selected vehicle.

We chose a dynamic strategy:

  • If the user has no registered vehicle, benefits appear in the Car tab for immediate access.

  • If the user has a registered vehicle, benefits move to the car detail screen.

  • This approach balances visibility and clarity. It supports a rich, welcoming experience for new users while keeping the interface clean and focused for those managing vehicles.

We ultimately chose a dynamic strategy:

  • Without a registered vehicle: Benefits are shown directly in the Car tab for onboarding clarity.

  • With a registered vehicle: Benefits move into the vehicle detail screen to maintain focus and avoid visual overload.

This decision allowed us to offer a welcoming, value-rich experience for new users while preserving simplicity for existing users.

The Outcome

While we originally proposed a card-based layout with sections and a visible “Add Vehicle” CTA, the product owner favored a more direct and minimal structure.

  • When no vehicle is added: The Car tab prominently features an “Add Vehicle” card along with a policy sales prompt—streamlining onboarding and encouraging conversion.

  • When a vehicle is added: Users land directly on the vehicle detail page. Navigation between vehicles is handled through pagination dots, and management actions (add/remove vehicle) are moved into a top-right kebab menu (⋮).

This approach removes unnecessary clutter, supports personalization, and accommodates both first-time users and multi-vehicle users with tailored, scalable flows.
